BMIM Connects

The size and relevance of your personal network is one of the most important distinguishing factors, and it's one that can make or break a career. That's why we at BMiM promote Dutch music copyright in both The Netherlands and in key export markets with the aim of increasing the percentage of Dutch music in both the domestic and foreign markets. And following a highly successful first year, we will be hosting a series of networking activities again: BMIM Connects. Our programme includes matchmaking sessions in which you can meet and get valuable input and advice from directors, music/sound companies, creatives, composers and agency producers. We also organises Q&A's and sessions with the best Dutch composers at film and advertising festivals and are currently working on formulating further exciting new projects. In 2016 you could find us at the Nederlands Film Festival in Utrecht, c/o pop in Köln, Ciclope Festival in Berlin, Musexpo in Los Angeles, the International Film Festival Rotterdam as well as for our One on One sessions and the Network Bash at our own event in May in Amsterdam. Whether you want to share your hard-earned knowledge, pitch music, discuss the current state of the industry, get feedback on a project or simply do business, we're delighted to be able to bring people with complimentary skills and areas of expertise together.

Get yourself in motion and join us!

Some highlights:

April 2017: Musexpo Los Angeles
In April the BMIM crew plus 15 Dutch composers, managers, publishers and producers visited Musexpo Conference, the fourth consecutive year that we took part in this event! Among them were representatives from Sony/ATV Europe, The Solos, Spinnin’ Records, MusicAllstars, Nimble Agency, HOUSTON,, Modern Day Composers, Solid as a Rock. We hosted a Dutch Meeting, a networking activity in which we met and got valuable input and advice from film producer Sunil Perkash (‘Premonition', ‘Enchanted’, ‘Salt’), Scotty Schneider, Associate Manager for Music at Fox Broadcasting Company (‘Glee’, ‘Bones’, ‘House’, ‘The X Factor’), editor Pieter Viljoen (‘Nike', 'Beats by Dre', ‘Jaguar', ‘Netflix’) and Head of Music at Freeform Tricia Holloway (‘Pretty Little Liars’, ‘The Fosters’, ‘Beyond’). Some of them already replied to our Dutch team that they liked some of the ‘pitched’ songs for their comedies, commercials and films. Benny Sings performed successfully at the Musexpo showcase festival in SIR Studios in Hollywood and also at our Networking event, which we organised together with Dutch Culture USA and Holland Hollywood Connection.

Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity

The size and relevance of your personal network is one of the most important distinguishing factors, and it's one that can make or break a career. That's why we at BMIM promote Dutch music copyright in both The Netherlands and in key export markets with the aim of increasing the percentage of Dutch music in both the domestic and foreign markets. Together with the Embassy of Dutch Creativity (founded by IAA Netherlands, ADCN, DDA, DDD and VEA) we organized a matchmaking session with a group of top agencies like JWT Istanbul, Tiny Riot! (FremantleMedia), Smarthouse Films and directors like Bobby Boermans and Bram Koopman during Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity on June 22nd. BMIM presents a meet & greet with Junkie XL at the Nederlands Film Festival

Tom Holkenborg / Junkie XL is to be a NFF Master guest during the 37th edition of the Dutch Film Festival. The film composer - known for both international productions including Mad Max: Fury Road, and Deadpool, as well as Dutch productions such as Brimstone - will, in his role as an NFF Master, hold a master class in the Grand Hall of the Stadsschouwburg Utrecht on September 27th. In addition, a meet & greet has been organised with the composer in order to allow him to connect with talent and professionals from the music industry.

Says Holkenborg on his role as an NFF Master: "The success I now have in Hollywood with movies like Mad Max: Fury Road and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, began thanks to the confidence I got from Dutch directors. I regard it as an honour that I can play such a big role in a Dutch Film Festival. It feels like everything has come full circle." One of the highlights of his presence at the NFF, according to Holkenborg, is the unique live Studio Time session during his master class. "I am very curious about what sort of young talents I'll get to meet."

The film composer, currently living in the United States, rose to international prominence in 2002 with his remix of Elvis Presley's A Little Less Conversation. In addition to a host of international productions including Mad Max: Fury Road, The Dark Tower, Deadpool, Black Mass, 300: Rise of an Empire, Divergent, alongside collaborations with Hans Zimmer (including Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), he also makes important creative contributions to Dutch films (eg The Happy Housewife, The Heineken Kidnapping, New Kids Turbo and Brimstone). In 2007 and 2012 he was nominated for a Golden Calf for Best Music for the films Blind and The Heineken Abduction.

Buy a ticket for the Tom Holkenborg Masterclass and win a meet & greet. Want to try your chances? Send an email to before September 5 and let us and the NFF know why you should be here! Tickets for the master class are now available at

BMIM meets film collegues at Nederlands Film Festival

We are delighted to be able to announce that for a second year we’re part of The Dutch Film Festival through a matchmaking session. Together with NFF we have created a special session between Dutch music companies, composers, and producers on the one hand, and the Dutch film industry on the other. Want to join us? Please sign up via before September 7th. Places are on a first come, first served basis, so hurry! We have ten spots and will schedule 10 to 15 minute sit downs. We will send you a list of who’s coming in advance, so that you can prepare for the meetings.
Date: September 27th (same day as the Junkie XL Masterclass and meet & greet)
Location: Stadsschouwburg, Lucasbolwerk 24, 3512 EJ Utrecht
Time: 11.00 - 13.00

Please note: you don’t have to be registered for the conference.

Extra Matchmaking: Script & Score

The film is in production, the script is signed off, but there's no composer yet! During NFF we are organising meetings between composers and director/producer duos for projects in production but where a composer has still not been chosen. The projects are ‘Kung Fu Leeuw’ from director FroukjeTan & producer Sabine Veenendaal (Submarine) and ‘Hiernamaals’ from director Willem Bosch & producer Felix van Gisbergen (Pupkin). See our website for more information and the synopsis. Want to be involved in one of those projects as a Dutch composer? Sign up and choose which project you’re interested in. The director will choose a scene, for which the composer has to prepare a demo based on the director’s notes. The composers then pitch what they have done, and the director/producer-duos interview each composer in order to evaluate the artistic integrity of the music presented to them. It is then the composer’s job to convince the director/producer that they can be trusted to compose the original music for the film.
Please note: this is a get-to-know-each-other session, there is no guarantee that you’ll be working on the project, BUT THERE IS DEFINITELY A CHANCE! So it's worth being involved!
To wrap up:
What? Script & Score
How? Sign up via
before September 7th and together with NFF we will select three composers per project to prepare two samples based on the script and the director’s notes and then to pitch those.
When? The pitching will take place on September 27th, from 11.00 - 13.00 (please note: you won’t be able to attend the other matchmaking)
Where? Stadsschouwburg, Lucasbolwerk 24, 3512 EJ Utrecht
